The Pieksämäki-based Kenttäharmaa orchestra performs wartime popular songs. The group consists of music enthusiasts from Pieksämäki, united by a love of vintage popular music and an interest in Finland’s history. Accordion artist Kalevi Hautamäki, known from Korsuorkesteri, brings strong expertise and a distinctive style to the band. Alongside the best-known wartime songs, the concert includes rarities. In addition to wartime songs, the theme leans strongly toward Karjala, as Karjala is closely connected to the period when the pieces were composed. Also performing is the young accordion virtuoso familiar to Äänekoski audiences, Veeti Tarvainen. Duration: about two hour-long sets. Coffee and conversation during the interval. Warmly welcome—and, as they say in Karjala, “Keep smiling even if your heart is heavy.”
