Megaliittipäivät Äänekoski / Jyväskylä

Fri 25.9.2026 – Sun 27.9.2026
Starts Fri 19:00, ends Sun ~15:00

In our forests there are astonishing stones: huge boulders resting on small support stones, unusual shapes, and places that raise questions. Are you aware of the ancient shorelines in many familiar outdoor areas? Do you want to see a skull stone? What kinds of observations and experiences arise around megaliths? We invite everyone interested to join us on the last weekend of September.

What will we do over the weekend?

Trips to ancient shorelines and stone sites

A presentation by Jukka Harmoinen and trip reports.

We will exchange experiences and consider different interpretations of the stones’ origins, possible meanings, and energy experiences related to these places.

We will share tips for finding and studying stone sites.

We will spend time together and have a sauna on the shore of Keitele.

You don’t need to be an experienced enthusiast to join. Curiosity, an open mind, and interest in others’ observations are enough.

Preliminary program

Friday 25 Sep – Arrival and getting to know each other

Arrival at Kivilahteen from 19:00. Relaxed time together, planning the weekend, and a sauna at Kivilahden lakeside sauna.

Saturday 26 Sep – Stone excursion and enthusiasts’ meetup

A joint trip to the ancient shoreline areas of Riihivuori and Paadentaipaleenvuori. Jukka Harmoinen’s presentation at Kivilahden; participants’ own photos, videos, and experiences. Shared discussion about megaliths, and in the evening the lakeside sauna again.

Day visitors can arrive at Kivilahteen either to have morning coffee together or to the Kivilahden parking lot at 10:00, from where we’ll set off together. The Saturday routes are fairly easy, with a total walking distance of about four kilometers. The terrain is hilly, but we’ll proceed at a relaxed pace. We’ll have a lunch break outdoors, and you can bring, for example, sausages to grill.

If you wish, bring your own find to the shared discussion: a few photos or about a five-minute story about an interesting stone, place, or observation. Do you have a theory about what megaliths are and why they are found abundantly around Finland and elsewhere in the world?

Sunday 27 Sep – More discoveries and joint exploration

Excursion to Jyväskylä’s megalith sites. We’ll get to know Jyväskylä’s megaliths, including the Sulunperä skull, the Kanavuori megaliths, and an impressive large megalith around which we have studied, together with Jukka, phenomena we interpret as energy rings.

Sunday’s day visitors can join us directly in Jyväskylä at our first site, which we’ll reach at about 10:00. You’ll receive the meeting place when you register. Sunday’s routes are of medium difficulty, with 5–6 kilometers of walking.

We favor carpooling. On the excursions you can hop in for a ride already from Kivilahden or, as a day visitor, from somewhere along the way.

What to bring?

Come with a good, open mindset. Bring weather-appropriate gear and sturdy, grippy footwear. Sauna gear, swimwear, and a towel (for overnight guests, towel and bed linen included in the price).

You might also bring a thermos, a cool bag with snacks, and some spare clothes.
